Poll has Celia 6 points ahead

Newstalk ZB have done a poll on the Wellington mayoralty, which shows things are quite competitive.

Incumbent Celia Wade-Brown is polling at 31.67%, trailed by John Morrison on 25.22%. They are the only contenders, with Jack Yan and Nicola Young failing to register any noticable support.

With 28% of people saying they don’t know who they’re going to vote for, the race is still wide open for Morrison to stage an upset.

At the end of the day though, the poll does need to be taken with a big grain of salt. It was a small (less than 500) sample size, and chances are the majority of those polled won’t even end up voting.

Interesting times ahead.

  1. 500 is fine for a local government poll. 1000 would be better, of course, but 500 is respectable. Also, I don’t know that it’s fair to call Celia Wade-Brown ahead when this is an STV election. 2010 pre-election polls had Kerry Prendergast with a higher share of the vote, and a bigger margin over Wade-Brown.
