Gardens Magic: The Nudge

Tonight is the first night of the ASB Gardens Magic series in the botanical gardens. It runs until the end of January and is always a fantastic night (even when the Ukelele Orchestra play and three quarters of the population of Wellington come to see them). Check out the programme here. I’m going to endeavour to do a reminder post every day.

At the last minute tonight’s planned act, The Thomas Oliver Band have had to cancel due to injury. They’ve been replaced by The Nudge. Here is what the music gurus at council had to say about them…

Fresh from a support tour with the Black Seeds and just about to release an album, Nudge promise a night of original psychedelic blues and wailing vocals. The three-piece band is made up of well-known Wellington musicians – Ryan Prebble, Iraia Whakamoe and Jimmy Coyle.

Sounds pretty good.

The opening act for the series was meant to be the Thomas Oliver Band. In case you are interested, here is what  the programme had to say about them…

This five-piece band’s combination of bluesy rock, including lap-slide guitar, double bass and baritone saxophone, make them a perfect opening band for Gardens Magic. Groove to these rocking hot shots before they hit the big time!

Incidentally, ASB Gardens Magic was the winner of the ‘Best Regular Entertainment’ category in TAWA5, with a Tomas Oliver Band performance being runner-up for ‘Best Live Performance’. Go them! (Also – TAWA6 most certainly needs a ‘Best Irregular Entertainment’ category).
