The council have updated their voting returns page with the figures for Thursday. The good news is there has been a last minute surge, possibly spurred on by the secondary publicity from the Auckland City elections.
32.8% of the vote has now been returned, compared to 31.25% at this stage in 2007.
Interestingly, there is a big disparity in return rate between the wards with Onslow-Western leading the pack at 36.11% returned and Lambton trailing badly with 29.92%. Any wild speculation as to an explanation is more than welcome!
Perhaps we should run a competition between the wards to improve the turnout. Ward with the most returns wins… a chocolate fish? A free bus pass for a month?
If you have a look at the 2007 returns you will see the spread is similar to the current 2010 spread.
