Governance Review – the six options

As previously mentioned, the Wellington Regional Governance Review contains six options for potential future governing arrangements. Contrary to what early reports were saying, the first of these options is to keep things as they are, so that is still on the table. They then range from various forms of cooperation and consolidation right to the point of a Wellington Super City.

With handy diagrams taken from the report, here is a summary of the six options…

1. Status quo

2. Strengthened Regional Council

3. Logical clusters

4. Two tier local government

5. Sub regional unitary authorities

6. A single regional unitary authority

One response to “Governance Review – the six options

  1. I’m not a fan of so-called ‘super-city’ stuff, and think we should definitely wait to see how well Auckland performs for a few years until making any kind of decision, but when you see the diagrams laid out like this, option 6 looks a lot more easy to manage than options 2, 3 and 4 !
