Garry Poole is our dear leader, for now

The Weekend Dom Post ran a story about the outgoing Mayor’s final day, farewell tour of council offices, and drinks with staff.  It also reported that the new Mayor’s job started Saturday, 16 October, although the swearing in ceremony is scheduled for 27 October.

“Celia Wade-Brown officially takes office as Wellington mayor today, and, between phone calls to councillors, will be heading to a fashion show and watching the rugby.”

This means that Town Clerk Garry Poole is our leader.

“Council spokesman Richard MacLean said that, until the new mayor was sworn in, council chief executive Gary Poole had “all the power”, although common sense would prevail in the interim period.”

Let’s hope so. Does this mean that former Telecom executive Peter Garty, as CFO (the guy who got mixed up in the leaked Telecom Cabinet paper issue) is deputy leader of Wellington City?
