Yan’s gritty campaign hits the catwalk

While some of the more energetic campaigns across the City have been out door knocking, leafletting and organizing free buses. Mayoral candidate, Jack Yan, has taken the bold step of substituting door knocking for catwalk strutting with a recent fundraiser at Greta Point.

Basically, a bunch of models and friends of Yan posed with framed mini-hoardings (with no visible authorisation…) with a whopping 10 per cent of the proceeds from the evening going to Canteen. While there is undoubtedly style to his campaign, it’s hard to fathom how any of this brings in votes? Still, I’m happy to be proved wrong on this and at the very least, it’s a lot more fun and interesting than Morrison’s yawn inducing newspaper ads.

Time will tell if Yan 2.0 is a more effective vote grabber, but I must say, he does look to be one of those people that you would describe as “very enthusiastic”…

Below are a few shots from his Facebook which seem to capture the vibe of the Yan campaign.

  1. Thank you for the coverage. Welcome to the age of viral campaigning, accomplishing the double task of raising funds and having the images shared by guests who wanted to pose. Those who didn’t want to pose enjoyed a nice, more traditional soirée at the venue, complete with a speech by yours truly (who is also door-knocking).
