Wellington’s super secret super city report set for release in November

In the leadup to the recent local body elections, the regions’ mayors met in secret in October to consider a report on amalgamation.  They decided that the public should not see the report until after the election.

“The public had been promised access to the $150,000 ratepayer-funded report earlier this month.”

But changes are being made to the report, which has delayed its public release. It’s now likely to surface in November. We’ll bring you details.

“… after a private mayoral meeting this week it has now been sent back to the report authors for tweaking and will not be publicly issued by the region’s nine civic leaders until next month. The draft report is thought to favour some amalgamation of the region’s nine territorial authorities, services and infrastructure.”

In early October a Dom Post-commissioned poll revealed deep uncertainty about the possibility of Wellington’s nine councils amalgamating, with 44 per cent of respondents opposed and 30 per cent in favour to some extent.
