Wellington.Scoop on billboards

Well as you’ve no doubt seen, the candidates have started putting up their billboards.

Wellington.Scoop have done a nice little story on them, with a few pictures. I think that Celia’s bus stop ads are particularly effective, but must be costing her a small fortune.

My one criticism of the story is that it doesn’t stray far from the centre city. If they had gone north they would have seen a sea of Justin Lester billboards, and most of the candidates out east seem to be doing well.

We’ll try and get more photos of them up, but please feel free to email them through!

  1. I suppose Adam Cunningham’s one isn’t there because there are not enough multi story highrises in Aro Valley that can accommodate three story billboards. He’s so lucky having rich property investor mates who can host his massive sign. He must hate it having to get ordinary people to vote for him.

  2. On the new apartment building opposite Te Papa. You can’t miss it driving towards Oriental Bay. It’s ironic really given Adam Cunningham was the food and beverage manager at Te Papa in 1998 before his drink and property empires took off. The people you must meet waiting on tables. See page 22 ‘Bluff Oysters Rule’. http://www.mahingakai.org.nz/php/newspaper-articles/Oysters%203.pdf.

His sign is a little hard to read. While the sign is deep Tory blue, the writing is pale empire blue. Contrasting colours always work better.

  3. Finally Moore has a billboard up. Unfortunately they’re so cluttered, in a shade of blue (is he a Nat – “blue green?”) and look like they’re promoting a childcare centre. Looks like he’ll have his hands full raising his family? Will he have time to be an effective councillor? Anyway, my peeps in the community agree with your earlier assessment: “No idea who this guy is”.

  4. I see that Adam Cunningham has a new mega sign up. This time on the Boulcott Village Building, owned by his finance company/property developer mate Mike O’Sullivan (actually his wife – he’s a director). Often with these companies the main men do not have shares in them but instead they are held by wives or partners (eg Cunningham’s Village Accommodation Group is a case in point, where Cunnigham’s family relative in Australia has shares in the company but not him). As we know Mike’s failed finance company St Laurence owes 9,000 investors $245 million. It looks like another deal has come a cropper in Auckland with Westpac owed $150 million. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sunday-star-times/business/3927310/Huge-losses-for-Westpac-in-project-crash. Adam Cunningham seems very forgiving accepting favours off these people. I am sure many Wellingtonians, if they knew the truth, would not be so understanding. Many would echo Paul Holmes comments yesterday: ‘God, I detest them all, finance companies”. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/opinion/news/article.cfm?c_id=466&objectid=10671139

  5. Oh dear Georgio – Moore of the same, Moore ignorance and lack of initiative.

For those who are really interested in “Vote for Moore” check out the WCC Election site, has heaps of detail and information on who Will Moore is.
Vote Moore, make change, brighten up your Community. Moore for You, Moore for Southern Ward.

  6. Just saw that Adam Cunningham sign. It’s obscene. How will he pay for it under the cap. I hope he doesn’t split the cente right vote. Fowler’s postcard is bad enough. Who can understand that! Why does he mention Mckinnon but not himself apart from a picture of him on a swing. It’s all nuts.

  7. Oh how I hate it when the city becomes littered with the ugly cheese that are campaign billboards. The whole country is about to be covered in signs promoting the coming elections. Maybe they should get on some wellington billboards and save their faces being defaced by vandals.
