Gardens Magic: The Shogun Orchestra

This is part of our series of posts on the Council’s Gardens Magic programme. You can view the full Summer City event calendar or the entire programme at the Council’s website.

Influenced by a three-month sojourn in Haiti, The Shogun Orchestra fuses afro-beat, calypso and jazz. This band is made up of members from Fat Freddy’s Drop, Twinset, The Eggs, Justin ‘Firefly’ Clarke and Adan Tijerina – all fronted by Wellington saxophonist and composer Lucien Johnson.

I couldn’t find any videos of the Shogun Orchestra, but they’ve got some great songs to listen to on their MySpace page. Have a listen!
