From the council website…
Local organisations and groups playing a role in Wellington city are invited to meet the new Mayor and Councillors. This is an opportunity for groups to talk about their aims and aspirations and discuss how the groups and Council can work together.
The Mayor and Councillors would also like to discuss Wellington’s financial challenges with the attendees and explore how we can address these issues.
It’s hoped a wide range of groups will attend the meetings, such as:
- community groups
- sports groups
- business organisations
- arts organisations
- residents’ associations
- ethnic and cultural organisations.
Spaces are limited in these hour-long meetings. Register below, selecting your preferred meeting time. Up to two representatives from an organisation can attend.
What I find most interesting about this iniative is this line: “The Mayor and Councillors would also like to discuss Wellington’s financial challenges with the attendees and explore how we can address these issues.”
So is this going to be the council’s opportunity to tell the community groups not to expect any new funding? Can they expect to have funding cut?
Regardless, I think this is a good iniative, but think that it needs to be extended to simply meeting with rate payers.
